The Seed of the New Year
The Seed of the New Year
Most of us use the new year as a beautiful opportunity to reflect on our lives, resolve to grow and transform, as well as allow our hearts to speak to us of our desires and dreams. Every one of us has the ability, strength, and infinite potential to bloom into our greatest aspiration as we plant the seeds for growth in the middle of winter.
Self-transformation and change takes time which is why it is important to be gentle with ourselves as we water and nourish our seeds of change we have planted while we stay in synch with the rhythms of Mother Nature. Shorter days is nature’s way of reminding us to not overdo it as well as take time to reconnect with our inner wisdom and light. Oftentimes it is frustrating when we do not see immediate results which is why Yoga advises us to be steady in our practice while at the same time not be attached to the outcome. Even if we do not accomplish all of our resolves for the new year, the process of setting goals, planting seeds, and reconnecting with our inner voice is transformational in and of itself.
I invite you to nurture the seeds you have planted with these simple practices:
*Establish or sustain a daily yoga practice- this can be asana or meditation of your choice. I recommend Sun Salutations for winter as a means to warm us as well as serve as a divine remembrance of the healing light above us that energizes and feeds us mind, body, and soul. As you move through the poses, let your inner light shine to its fullest radiance as you feel connected to the sun and the earth through your breath. Meditate on the sun within your heart center or a flower blooming within you.
*Give yourself time to rest and recover so you can restore your energy. This means making time to care for yourself- enjoy a book, take a walk and immerse yourself in the wonder of Mother Nature, infuse yourself in a hot bath, get a full night’s sleep. Your complete being will thank you for it in all ways.
*Take time for stillness. This is a great way to listen to your heart and find your true self. Find a special place in your home to light a candle each evening and as you gaze upon it contemplate the light within you. Visualize a golden flame at your heart center. Breathe into that light and watch it grow within you and surround you.
May you blossom into all your greatness!

A Light in the World
A Light in the World
Sometimes in the middle of winter it seems as if there is a never ending darkness as you see gray skies and the sun is hidden from sight. In my quest for something to remind me there is something bright, I found a beautiful light in Laura Plumb.
Who is Laura Plumb? Laura is the co-founder of Deep Yoga- a yogic system and school based upon the traditions of Hatha Yoga and Ayurveda which enable the individual to go within and connect with their mind/body/and soul. As I searched for a way to feel better, Laura lovingly guided me with her brightness to the light within myself. A place where my true wisdom lies, pure potentiality exists, and infinite blossoming unfolds. I admire Laura as my guru, my friend, and a radiant, sparkling light in the world. Most of all I am grateful to her as she is a reminder to me the sun is out there on the darkest of days and it shines within all of us.
